BLIK introduces Folded Forms, a modern update to traditional flat lenticular prints. With Folded Forms, BLIK lifts the art off the wall, mimicking lenticular optics by applying two different prints to aluminum prism columns, this creates a lenticular effect where different images are revealed in these stunning 3D double-faceted artworks that change with the viewer’s perspective.
BLIK Folded Forms will feature artwork from a roster of artists but for the initial launch, BLIK collaborated with UK based design sisters, Kapitza Studio, to bring their colorful geometric art to Folded Forms. There are eight limited edition Kapitza Studio lenticular designs: Converge, Duality, Fluxion, Halo, Intersect, Metamorphosis, Reshape and Shift. Each design is available in Small and Large and limited edition to 5 each per size. With each striking piece, Kapitza’s mastery of “happy colors” and geometrics will be on display with one vibrant image transitioning into another as the viewer moves left to right and back again with a hybrid of the two images in the center.
“We’re thrilled to share this collaboration with BLIK on their new lenticular collection, Folded Forms. Working with the lenticular medium has provided us with a perfect opportunity to continue our ongoing exploration and love for maths, geometric shapes, color, and animation resulting in a dynamic collection that constantly changes and engages viewers,” shares Kapitza Studio.
While traditional lenticular prints are flat with the illusion of 3D, BLIK Folded Forms are actual 3D artworks which juxtapose two graphic images on triangular columns. The shifting panorama of the two distinct images which align and dissolve when the viewer passes or orbits them, add complexity, intrigue, and the appearance of kinesis to the static works of art. “They’re dynamic, ever-changing art pieces that evolve as you move, adding a playful energy to the artwork,” enthuses Kapitza.
BLIK has been creating custom lenticular for years for commercial clients and Folded Forms introduces smaller dimensional lenticular artworks into its retail line for the home and art collector. “We developed Folded Forms as a new and artful dimensional take on a classic print medium,” says BLIK co-founder, Scott Flora, adding “When we reached out to Kapitza to help us design our flagship line of Folded Forms, they immediately saw the potential of using their designs in this exciting new art medium. The Kapitza collaboration explores geometry and color; while future collections use 70’s era video photography, typography and more. There is just so much potential to present art in this new way, and at BLIK we like to re-interpret classic archetypes for today’s consumer.”
Made to order by BLIK, Folded Forms lenticular art works with Kapitza Studio are available in Small and Large options ranging in size from 34" x 35" to 64" x 48". All Small designs come with a 0.75" top and bottom wood bracket required for the assembly of the final piece. Instructions and mounting cleats are included for hanging.
